Port of San Diego Launches Real-Time Cargo and Cruise Schedule

At California’s fourth-largest port, vessel times remain estimates, and the port says added visibility should help reduce conflicts with local marine events.

The Port of San Diego has launched PortControl, a real-time online vessel schedule for cargo and cruise ship activity at the port. The platform, introduced May 30, gives users access to vessel arrival and departure information, ships currently in port and cruise ship schedule visibility.

The tool adds public-facing schedule transparency at the fourth-largest port in California, where commercial cargo, cruise calls, tourism activity and local marine events share the same waterfront operating environment.

PortControl is designed to show estimated vessel movements as they change, including arrival and departure times for cargo ships and cruise schedule information. The port said the added visibility is intended to improve safety, transparency and general awareness of daily maritime activity.

The Port of San Diego also expects the system to help reduce conflicts with local marine events by giving users a clearer view of vessel traffic. Vessel times remain estimates and are subject to change.

In fiscal 2023, the Port of San Diego reported $13.8 billion in regional economic impact and more than 71,000 jobs supported in San Diego County. Its cruise business accounted for more than $104 million in direct cruise industry spending, while cargo volumes exceeded 2.4 million tons.

The announcement did not include a statement from a named port official.
