P&O Offers Ventura Guests Cruise Credit After Storm Delay

Cherbourg, the itinerary’s only French port, was removed after P&O cited recent protests and civil unrest; Porto, Lisbon and Vigo remain scheduled calls from October 27.

P&O’s Credit-Only Offer Falls Short After Ventura Loses a Cruise Day

Ventura’s passengers have lost a night of their cruise, but using P&O Cruises’ compensation means booking with the line again. The offer is a future cruise credit equivalent to one day’s fare, not money back. I’d want the value of that missing night returned without having to commit to another P&O holiday.

The 3,192-guest ship reached Southampton on Sunday, October 25, 2026, a day late after Storms Austen and Boelo delayed its return. That pushed embarkation for its next France, Spain and Portugal sailing back by a day, turning a seven-night cruise into six nights.

Delaying a ship because of storms is understandable. Making compensation conditional on a future booking is a separate decision, and a much harder one to defend.

Some passengers responding on Facebook objected to the credit-only offer, including guests who said they had no plans to sail with P&O again. For them, the distinction is substantial. Credit toward a holiday they do not intend to take does not return the money they paid for the missing day.

Passengers also asked whether prepaid drinks and Wi-Fi packages would be adjusted for the shorter voyage. P&O’s initial notification did not address refunds for those purchases. Guests should not have to work out for themselves which parts of a shortened holiday will be adjusted.

One night shorter, with Cherbourg removed

P&O notified embarking passengers on Friday, October 23, that its Southampton operations team and the port authority had delayed Ventura because of the storms. Guests were told to keep their assigned terminal check-in times, shifted to Sunday.

The ship had been due to finish its previous seven-night cruise on Saturday, October 24. Associated British Ports’ schedule recorded its Sunday arrival at 6:07 a.m. and listed departure for 4 p.m. that afternoon.

Cherbourg, the itinerary’s only French port, has been removed. P&O cited “recent protests and civil unrest in France” in its email to guests. The call had been scheduled for embarkation day, so the delayed Southampton departure would also have prevented the visit.

The remaining calls are unchanged: Porto on Tuesday, October 27, Lisbon on Wednesday and Vigo on Thursday. Ventura is still due back in Southampton on Saturday, October 31.

Weather disruption beyond Ventura

Other ships have faced changes too. MSC Virtuosa stayed in Southampton longer than planned and dropped La Rochelle amid the storms and disruption in France. P&O’s Arvia and Iona, Ambassador Cruise Line’s Ambition and MSC Cruises’ MSC Preziosa have also had weather-related schedule changes.

The Met Office had no active English Channel warnings on Sunday, although Windy.com showed early-morning winds of 35–40 miles per hour across the Channel. Those speeds were only slightly below late Saturday’s conditions, with further easing forecast through Sunday.

The weather gives P&O a clear explanation for the delay. It does not make future cruise credit an adequate substitute for cash.
