Oceania Opens First Fully Gluten-Free Ocean Cruise Bookings
The sailing will include food-label vetting, galley walkthroughs, venue assessments and pre-vetted gluten-free excursions in each port.
Celiac Cruise and Oceania Cruises have opened bookings for what they describe as the first fully gluten-free ocean cruise to the British Isles, a 12-night sailing aboard Oceania Vista from May 31 to June 12, 2028. The voyage will depart Southampton and call in England, Ireland and Scotland, with onboard dining and shore excursions planned around gluten-free controls for guests with celiac disease and other gluten-free requirements.
Celiac Cruise, founded by Maureen Basye in 2018, said it has trained more than 30,000 cruise line crew members across Oceania Cruises, Royal Caribbean and AmaWaterways on celiac disease, gluten-free protocols and reducing cross-contact risk.
Basye, co-founder of Celiac Cruise, said the sailing has both professional and personal significance because celiac disease affects two members of her immediate family. “Giving the celiac and broader gluten-free communities a means to travel completely worry-free” is the company’s purpose, Basye said.
Food controls cover ship venues and excursions
Celiac Cruise said the sailing will include individual review and vetting of food labels, detailed galley walkthroughs and assessments of onboard venues. The company also said each port will offer pre-vetted gluten-free excursions.
Guests will have access to Oceania Vista’s 11 restaurants and cafés, including four specialty restaurants, as well as 24-hour room service.
Nathan Hickman, senior vice president and chief sales officer for Oceania Cruises, said the line has offered gluten-free options across its fleet but worked with Celiac Cruise to build a dedicated voyage. The partnership, he said, “deepened our understanding of the celiac community and the unmet need” for a fully planned gluten-free cruise experience.
Southampton departure includes Irish, English and Scottish calls
The itinerary will sail from Southampton to Cobh, Dublin, Liverpool, the Scottish Highlands, the Orkney Islands and Edinburgh.
