Oasis of the Seas Schedules Toilet Shutdowns During Nassau Call

Oasis of the Seas issued an identical notice during a July 29 Nassau call, with the same two outage windows; Royal Caribbean has not said whether the work is connected.

Royal Caribbean International has warned guests aboard Oasis of the Seas that toilets in affected areas will be unavailable during two two-hour maintenance periods on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. The work requires temporarily shutting down the ship’s vacuum system while the vessel is docked in Nassau, Bahamas.

The ship has capacity for about 5,600 passengers at double occupancy, but Royal Caribbean has not confirmed whether the shutdown will affect every toilet onboard. Nor has it said what the work involves.

The scheduled outages run from 10 a.m. to noon and again from 1-3 p.m. Royal Caribbean told guests it expected service to be fully restored by the end of the second period; the notice does not list an outage during the intervening hour.

A letter delivered to staterooms on Tuesday and subsequently shared on Facebook described the work as essential maintenance. “During this time, toilets will not be operational,” the notice told guests.

Some passengers on Decks 11 and 12 said on Facebook that they had received the letter, while others on Decks 6, 9, 10 and 14 said they had not. Those accounts do not establish the boundaries of the shutdown, as delivery of the notices may still have been underway.

Both maintenance periods fall within the ship’s scheduled port stay, so passengers can be ashore during the work. Oasis of the Seas is due alongside from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with its arrival brought forward from the originally scheduled 10:30 a.m.

An identical notice in July

Oasis of the Seas, which entered service in 2009, underwent a similar vacuum-system shutdown on July 29. Guests received an identical maintenance notice for work during another Nassau call, using the same two outage windows.

Royal Caribbean did not specify what work was required on that occasion either. It remains unclear whether the September maintenance is connected to the earlier shutdown or concerns a separate issue.

Weather has already altered the sailing

The current seven-night Perfect Day Bahamas cruise departed New York City on Sunday, September 27, later than planned because of a nor’easter affecting the region. The storm-adjusted itinerary also dropped the scheduled September 29 visit to Port Canaveral. The ship’s next scheduled call is Perfect Day at CocoCay on Thursday, October 1.
