Nicko Cruises Adds Fuel Surcharge to 2026-27 World Cruise
German writer and television presenter Hera Lind is scheduled to join the Papeete-to-Manila segment with writing workshops and panel discussions aboard the ship.
Nicko Cruises will add a €10 per person, per night fuel surcharge to every segment of the Vasco da Gama’s 2026-27 world cruise. Guests booked for the full voyage will pay an additional €1,930 per person and will receive revised invoices from the cruise line.
The 193-day itinerary is scheduled to depart Hamburg on Nov. 3, 2026. Nicko Cruises attributed the adjustment to international fuel prices.
What the line told guests
In its customer notice, Nicko Cruises said it had waited to see whether tensions in the Middle East would ease before communicating the surcharge at the beginning of April. Oil prices subsequently rose again, the company said.
“International fuel prices remain significantly above the level used in the original calculation,” Nicko Cruises told affected guests. The line said current prices were also higher than those prevailing before the beginning of March and when the world cruise program was developed.
Nicko Cruises will include the applicable charge on each guest’s invoice or booking confirmation. Passengers taking individual segments will be charged according to the number of nights booked.
“We continue to monitor all price developments closely in cooperation with our partners and will pass on only what is necessary,” the company said.
World cruise spans three oceans
Vasco da Gama will sail through the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans before returning to Hamburg on May 5, 2027.
The voyage includes individually bookable routes, including a 30-day segment from Papeete, Tahiti, to Manila. That leg will begin Jan. 22, 2027, and call at Bora Bora, Apia, Fiji, Vanuatu, Rabaul, destinations in Indonesia and Bohol before reaching Manila on Feb. 20.
German writer and television presenter Hera Lind, whose books have sold more than 22 million copies, is scheduled to join that segment with her husband, Engelbert Lainer-Wartenberg. Lind will conduct writing workshops and panel discussions aboard the ship during the voyage.
