Nicko Cruises Adds Danube Hiking Cruises for 2027
Aboard the river ship Bolero, the included hikes range from eight to fifteen kilometers, with routes along the Wachau World Heritage Trail and through Ysper Gorge.
Nicko Cruises will offer two eight-day Danube hiking cruises aboard the river ship Bolero in 2027, sailing round trip from Passau from April 26 to May 3 and October 4 to 11. The itinerary calls at Krems, Esztergom, Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna and Ybbs, with five guided hikes included in the cruise fare. The routes range from eight to 15 kilometers and are expected to take between three and a half and five hours.
Five guided routes along the Danube
The Vienna hike covers about 15 kilometers. It follows the Nasenweg to Leopoldsberg before continuing across Kahlenberg to Hermannskogel, the highest point within Vienna.
Another 15-kilometer route begins in Bratislava’s Devin district and enters the Devinska Kobyla nature reserve. It climbs through forest and open terrain to Devinska Kobyla, the highest point in the Devin Carpathians, with views across the Morava’s confluence with the Danube and the Austrian-Slovak border region.
From Krems, passengers will hike about 13 kilometers along the Wachau World Heritage Trail. The route passes vineyards and Danube Valley viewpoints before finishing in Durnstein, below the town’s hilltop castle ruins.
The Budapest excursion begins at the Elisabeth Lookout on Janosberg. Its roughly 10-kilometer course crosses the wooded Buda Hills and continues to Dreihotterberg.
The shortest hike begins during the Ybbs call and covers about eight kilometers through the southern Waldviertel. It follows the Ysper River into the Ysper Gorge, where the route passes granite formations, waterfalls and moss-covered rocks.
Esztergom is included as a port call, although Nicko Cruises did not assign one of the five announced guided hikes to that stop.
Nicko Cruises did not disclose a starting fare for either departure, and the announcement did not include an executive statement.
