French Teen Cruise Passenger Assaulted Near Genoa Terminal

The girl had gone ashore with her family before the late-morning attack on Via Gramsci; MSC Musica was the only cruise ship in Genoa that day.

A 14-year-old French cruise passenger was assaulted on Tuesday, June 9, on Via Gramsci, close to Genoa’s cruise terminal area and a nearby metro station. The teenager sustained minor abrasions and declined hospital transport after receiving treatment at the scene, while police detained a woman described as being about 25 years old, La Repubblica reported.

The ship was not officially identified, but MSC Musica was the only cruise ship in Genoa that day.

The girl had gone ashore with her family before the assault, which occurred shortly before 11:30 a.m. The attacker punched her in the face and left the area before returning, according to the local account.

Police detained the woman after she resisted officers. The Croce Bianca Genovese volunteer ambulance service treated the teenager for several abrasions and offered transport to a local hospital, which she refused.

It was not known whether the teenager and her family had started their cruise in Genoa, were ending the sailing there or were visiting the city as a port call. Authorities had not disclosed the suspect’s identity, a motive or possible charges.
