Disney Destiny Makes First San Juan Call, Bringing 2,500 Guests
San Juan Cruise Port hosted an onboard inaugural-call ceremony for the Wish-class ship, which is sailing weeklong Caribbean and Bahamas cruises from Port Canaveral.
The 144,000 GT Disney Destiny made its first call at San Juan on June 30, bringing more than 2,500 guests to Puerto Rico during an Eastern Caribbean sailing for Disney Cruise Line. San Juan Cruise Port hosted an onboard inaugural-call ceremony for the Wish-class ship. Disney Destiny entered service in November 2025.
The call is the start of a scheduled run of seven Disney Destiny transit visits expected to generate more than $1.6 million in economic activity for Puerto Rico through July 2027. The Puerto Rico Tourism Company said spending from the calls is expected to reach local businesses, tour operators, transportation providers and other tourism-related operators.
San Juan links inaugural call to local business
San Juan Cruise Port said the ship “joins the thousands of cruise passengers who visit San Juan each week,” adding that cruise traffic creates “meaningful opportunities for local businesses.”
“Every inaugural call helps support the people and businesses that make Puerto Rico such a memorable destination,” San Juan Cruise Port said in its update.
Puerto Rico officials tied the Disney Destiny visit to a record year for the island’s cruise sector. Governor Jenniffer Gonzalez Colon said expanded Disney Cruise Line operations create additional opportunities for local businesses, while Puerto Rico Tourism Company Executive Director Willianette Robles Cancel said the ship’s scheduled calls add to the cruise sector’s contribution to the island economy.
Wish-class ship joins Disney’s Caribbean program
Built by Meyer Werft in Germany, Disney Destiny is the third ship in Disney Cruise Line’s Wish-class series. The vessel carries 2,508 passengers at double occupancy, with maximum capacity of about 4,116 guests, 1,238 staterooms and a crew of roughly 1,555.
The ship is operating weeklong cruises from Port Canaveral to the Caribbean and the Bahamas. Disney Cruise Line’s program for the vessel includes calls at the company’s private destinations in the Bahamas, including Castaway Cay and Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.
San Juan remains both a homeport and transit port in the Caribbean cruise market. The port handled about 1.8 million cruise tourists in 2019, its highest pre-pandemic annual figure, and cruise activity there generates about $250 million annually for the local economy across roughly 540 ship calls.
On the current sailing, Disney Destiny’s itinerary also includes Philipsburg, St. Maarten, and Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point before the ship returns to Port Canaveral.
