Carnival Corporation Donates $25,000 for Hawaii Storm Recovery

Direct Relief is providing medical supplies, water purification materials and personal care items for people displaced by the storms in Hawaii.

Carnival Corporation and its Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America Line and Princess Cruises brands have jointly donated $25,000 to Direct Relief to support hurricane recovery in Hawaii. The company said the combined contribution would help fund immediate relief needs the nonprofit is addressing.

Carnival cited more than 200 ship calls annually across five Hawaiian destinations (Nawiliwili, Kahului, Honolulu, Hilo and Kailua Kona), bringing approximately 528,000 guests to the region.

Storms have also disrupted the group’s cruise schedules. Carnival Panorama recently required a second itinerary adjustment because of hurricanes in the area, while Grand Princess and Ruby Princess had their itineraries affected in September.

Direct Relief’s assistance includes medical supplies for health care teams and field medic packs for triage. The nonprofit is also providing water purification supplies and personal care items to people and families displaced by the storms.

The nonprofit’s Hurricane Preparedness Program, established in 2006, places emergency medicines and supplies with health care providers before storms arrive. Those stocks help clinics continue treating patients when transportation, electricity and supply chains are disrupted.

The program carries supplies for both urgent treatment and ongoing medical needs, including medications for diabetes, hypertension and asthma, as well as antibiotics, epinephrine and wound-care materials. Preparedness packs are staged with clinics and partner organizations in hurricane-prone areas, including the Pacific.

Direct Relief is working with Hawaiian health care providers, nonprofits and health agencies to assess continuing recovery needs. Its hurricane response arrangements allow partners to request replenishment of supplies, additional medical assistance or financial support as needs develop.
