Viking Takes Delivery of Two New European River Ships
Annar carries one hundred ninety guests in ninety-five staterooms, while Fjolvar was built for Seine navigation and Viking’s central Paris docks.
Viking has taken delivery of Viking Annar and Viking Fjolvar, two new European river ships built by MEYER Group’s Neptun Werft in Rostock-Warnemünde, Germany. Viking Annar will operate on Rhine, Main and Danube itineraries, while Viking Fjolvar is assigned to Seine voyages sailing roundtrip from Paris.
The deliveries lift Viking’s river fleet to 92 ships. They add capacity in two European deployment areas.
"These new vessels allow even more curious travelers to experience Europe in Viking comfort," said Leah Talactac, president and CEO of Viking. Talactac said river cruising gives guests a way to explore destinations through history, culture and local life.
Where the new ships will sail
Viking Annar accommodates 190 guests in 95 staterooms and follows Viking’s 135-meter Longship format, sized for European river infrastructure. The vessel uses Viking’s patented square bow, allowing three full decks and the indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace, and asymmetric corridors that make room for two-room suites.
Built for the Rhine, Main and Danube network, Viking Annar will sail itineraries including Rhine Getaway, Grand European Tour, Passage to Eastern Europe, European Sojourn and Christmas on the Rhine.
Viking Fjolvar carries 168 guests in 84 staterooms and was built for Seine navigation and Viking’s docking facilities in central Paris. The ship will sail Paris roundtrip itineraries including Paris & the Heart of Normandy and the new Christmastime in Paris & Normandy program.
More ships on order
Neptun Werft has been part of the MEYER Group since 1997 and is a long-running builder of river cruise vessels. The latest deliveries add to Viking’s European river fleet after Viking Annar was named last October with eight other ships joining the company’s fleet.
Viking expects to take delivery of 22 additional river ships by 2028. The company also has nine ocean ships and two expedition ships due by 2031; if delivered as scheduled, Viking expects to operate 114 river ships in 2028 and 26 ocean and expedition ships in 2031.
