UnCruise Plans Six Baja Expeditions From La Paz

The program includes whale-focused, family, photography and Steinbeck-themed departures, with calls at Isla Espiritu Santo and Bahia de los Angeles.

Visit Baja Sur has outlined six new UnCruise Adventures expedition itineraries in Baja California Sur, with roundtrip La Paz voyages of eight to 11 nights aboard the 66-passenger Safari Voyager. Published fares start at $7,400 per person for the eight-night programs and $8,400 per person for the 11-night voyages.

The itineraries concentrate on the Gulf of California, covering both southern and northern waters and using themed departures for whale-focused travel, families, photography and Steinbeck-related programming. La Paz serves as the embarkation and return point for the Baja California Sur program.

The eight-night offerings include the core “Baja California’s Whales & Sealife” itinerary, along with “Families in Nature: Baja California’s Whales & Sealife” and “Photography Cruise: Baja California’s Whales & Sealife.”

The 11-night group includes “In Steinbeck’s Wake: An Epic Voyage Through the Sea of Cortez,” plus Western Flyer and Captain’s Cruise versions tied to the same Sea of Cortez program.

Baja California Sur occupies the southern portion of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of California. Stops named for the UnCruise program include Isla San Francisco, Isla Espiritu Santo, Puerto Refugio and Bahia de los Angeles, with visits to isolated ranching communities in Bahia Agua Verde and volcanic desert landscapes also included.

Visit Baja Sur lists humpback and blue whales among the wildlife guests may encounter during the sailings. The Gulf of California has UNESCO-recognized biodiversity credentials, including about 891 to 900 fish species, roughly 90 of them endemic to the Gulf or parts of it, and about 39% of the world’s marine mammal species within the site.

The Visit Baja Sur announcement did not include specific departure dates. It gave no executive statement from UnCruise.
