Guangzhou Nansha Homeport Prepares for Adora Flora City Debut

Nansha is aligning berth allocation, gangways, shore power and clearance workflows, while coordinating events in Nansha and downtown Guangzhou.

Guangzhou Port Group and Nansha Cruise Homeport have begun preparing Guangzhou Nansha International Cruise Homeport for Adora Flora City’s first season, ahead of the Adora Cruises newbuild’s scheduled Nov. 6, 2026 delivery at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding. The ship is due to depart Nansha on Nov. 22 on its maiden voyage, establishing Guangzhou as its homeport.

The work moves the 141,900-gross-ton ship from shipyard schedule to port operations as Nansha prepares for the vessel’s arrival. Guangzhou Port Group is also developing Nansha as a core cruise hub for the Greater Bay Area, alongside Shenzhen’s Shekou terminal to the east.

Nansha aligns berth, clearance and tourism work

Preparations at Nansha cover berth allocation, gangway arrangements and shore-power alignment, as well as customs, immigration and quarantine workflows tailored to Flora City and its projected passenger volumes. The homeport is also coordinating with Guangzhou district-level cultural and tourism bureaus on land-side events in Nansha and downtown Guangzhou during the season.

The terminal infrastructure already exceeds the ship’s size requirements. Phase I includes two berths rated at 100,000 GT and 225,000 GT, while the 60,000-square-meter terminal has annual capacity for 750,000 passengers and customs clearance capacity of 4,000 passengers per hour. The nearest railway station is 0.5 kilometers from the terminal, adding a direct land-transport link for the homeport operation.

Second domestic large ship enters late-2026 newbuild lineup

Adora Flora City was at the Waigaoqiao yard as of early July. The ship measures 341 meters long and 37.2 meters wide, with 2,130 cabins, maximum capacity for 5,232 passengers and accommodation for 1,300 crew. It is 17.4 meters longer and about 6,400 GT heavier than sister ship Adora Magic City.

Adora Magic City, China’s first domestically built large cruise ship, entered service in January 2024 and completed its 200th commercial voyage in May 2026. Construction efficiency on Flora City improved by approximately 20 percent compared with the first ship.

Cruise Industry News’ global orderbook data places Flora City among the 2026 cruise ships still scheduled to enter service before year-end. Across the full 2026 class, 13 cruise ships have an average size of 94,715 tons and average capacity of 2,085 guests, with an estimated combined value of $9.5 billion.

The published maiden-season itineraries were scheduled to open for bookings May 20. The opening program is the 17-day “Maritime Silk Road Discovery” voyage, with calls including Hong Kong and Vietnam among other Southeast Asian ports. Beyond that voyage, the winter 2026-27 program is scheduled to include shorter sailings to Japan, South Korea and the Philippines.
