Fincantieri to Build Two More Viking Ocean Ships for 2032
Fincantieri did not disclose a price but classified the agreement as large, its category for deals valued between five hundred million and one billion euros.
Fincantieri and Viking have contracted for two 54,300-gross-ton ocean cruise ships scheduled for delivery in 2032. Fincantieri will build the 998-guest vessels at its Ancona shipyard in Italy.
The order firms options granted in April 2025 and raises the number of vessels Viking has ordered from Fincantieri to 28. It follows contracts signed earlier in 2026 for two Viking expedition ships.
Fincantieri did not disclose an exact contract price. The shipbuilder described the agreement as “large,” its designation for transactions valued between €500 million and €1 billion. The contracts remain subject to financing and customary terms and conditions.
Ancona secures the 2032 newbuilds
Both ships will carry more guests than most of Viking’s existing ocean vessels, which have a 930-guest capacity. Fincantieri said the newbuilds will comply with the latest environmental and navigation regulations and will incorporate updated safety systems. Ancona focuses on smaller, high-value passenger vessels within Fincantieri’s Italian shipyard network.
“Today’s agreement marks another milestone in our long-standing partnership with Viking,” said Pierroberto Folgiero, chief executive officer and managing director of Fincantieri, calling the order a testament to the Ancona yard’s industrial capabilities.
Folgiero said the contracts would support local employment, provide continuity for suppliers and reinforce Ancona’s role within the group. The yard also built Viking Mira, which began its maiden season in June 2026.
Viking extends its construction pipeline
Viking’s committed orderbook now includes 11 ocean ships, two expedition vessels and 20 river ships. The two recently ordered expedition vessels are due to be built at Fincantieri’s Palermo yard, where the shipbuilder is upgrading the facility for newbuild construction.
Viking Executive Chairman Torstein Hagen addressed the orderbook on an earnings call. “As long as we make sure we spend enough on marketing, treat our guests well and we have good contract prices with the yards,” Hagen said, the pipeline “will be very good for us.”
Viking also holds options for another four ocean ships and 16 river vessels.
