Dover Handles First Four-Ship Cruise Day as 2026 Season Grows

Celebrity Eclipse continued to Amsterdam the next day, while Viking Sky made its first Dover call during a fourteen-night British Isles sailing from London.

The Port of Dover handled its busiest cruise day on May 8, 2026, when Celebrity Eclipse, Viking Sky, Fram and Le Bellot were in port simultaneously. It was the Kent port’s first four-ship cruise day. Cruise Lines International Association also held part of its annual Expedition Summit aboard HX’s Fram, bringing about 100 travel agents into Dover on the same day.

The operation came during a 2026 cruise season expected to bring 115 calls from 22 cruise lines and about 200,000 guests through Dover, the port’s fifth consecutive year of cruise growth. It also comes 30 years after the opening of Dover’s first dedicated cruise terminal.

Peter Wright, head of cruise at the Port of Dover, called the four-ship day “the culmination of months of planning.” He said “delivering these four vessels demonstrates the significant capability that we have as a cruise port,” citing the port’s current investments, transport links, customer service and heritage.

Wright also thanked Dover’s cruise line partners and operations staff, saying it was “amazing to see our terminals and waterfront bustling with their guests from all over the world.”

Four itineraries converged at Dover

The largest ship in the May 8 lineup was Celebrity Cruises’ 2,852-passenger Celebrity Eclipse, which called at Dover on a transatlantic itinerary before continuing to Amsterdam on May 9. Viking’s 930-passenger Viking Sky made its first Dover call during a 14-night British Isles sailing that had departed London on May 7.

Ponant’s 184-guest Le Bellot called during an eight-night Celtic Voyage from London to Glasgow, while HX’s 200-guest Fram used Dover as the departure point for a 16-night cruise to Norway’s fjords ending in Svalbard. Fram also served as the venue for CLIA’s expedition-focused agent event.

Season growth and berth upgrades

Dover’s wider 2026 schedule includes another full season by Holland America Line’s Nieuw Statendam, regular returns by Carnival Cruise Line, Saga Cruises, AIDA Cruises and Seabourn Cruise Line, and transit calls by six Viking ships. The port is also due to receive six inaugural calls this year: Princess Cruises’ Sapphire Princess, TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff 2, Silversea Cruises’ Silver Spirit, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ Europa 2, Scenic Cruises’ Scenic Eclipse and Viking Mira.

Recent infrastructure work includes new quick release mooring hooks, which allow mooring lines to be released quickly and in a controlled way, including under load. Dover says the installation allows ships up to 350 meters to berth, an increase of 30 meters compared with the previous limit.

The port’s Western Docks cruise operation includes two dedicated cruise terminals and an additional port-of-call berth. Cruise Terminal 1, the renovated former Dover Marine railway station, is also due to receive a new passenger boarding bridge in 2027.

Dover expects additional multi-ship cruise days before the season ends with Nieuw Statendam on Dec. 7.
