Disney Adventure Cancels Sailing After Guests Board in Singapore

Guests have until May 31, 2027, to book and sail with the fifty percent future-cruise offer, alongside refunds and one hotel night.

Disney Cruise Line canceled Disney Adventure's May 7-11, 2026 sailing from Singapore after guests had boarded and spent one night aboard while the vessel remained docked. Passengers were moved off the ship and into local hotels, disrupting a four-night voyage on Disney's first ship homeported in Asia.

Disney later attributed the cancellation to a mechanical issue and said the ship departed on its next scheduled sailing on May 11 after the problem was resolved. No additional Disney Adventure sailing was identified as canceled.

Passenger handling and compensation

In a letter delivered to guests, Disney said it was "unable to proceed" with the sailing as planned and asked passengers to prepare their belongings for disembarkation. The cruise line arranged shuttle transportation to hotels, including JW Marriott Singapore South Beach and similar properties, and made complimentary Wi-Fi available so guests could change travel plans.

Affected passengers were offered a full refund of cruise fare and unused prepaid items, including packages such as internet, drinks or photos. Disney also offered 50% off a future sailing, one complimentary hotel night, reimbursement for certain hotel and flight change fees, up to $500 per stateroom for incidental expenses and additional assistance on a case-by-case basis.

"We completely understand this was an unfortunate situation for our guests," Disney told USA Today, adding that it worked directly with passengers to support travel needs and invite them back on a future cruise. A Disney spokesperson told Fox Business the future cruise offer must be booked by and depart on or before May 31, 2027, after the line referenced an updated booking window in a later communication to passengers.

Mechanical issue and return to service

Disney has not publicly given a system-level explanation for the disruption. Passengers aboard the ship said they were told the problem involved propulsion, while Disney's later statement described the cause more generally as a mechanical issue.

The ship left Singapore for open-water testing on May 9 before resuming guest operations. Its next departure was a three-night sailing from Marina Bay Cruise Centre, with two days scheduled in the South China Sea before returning to Singapore.

Disney Adventure's Singapore role

The 342-meter Disney Adventure is Disney Cruise Line's largest vessel, at roughly 208,000 GT with capacity for about 6,000 to 6,700 passengers. Its propulsion plant uses six MAN 48/60CR engines driving three ABB Azipod thrusters.

The ship entered service in mid-March 2026 with year-round three- and four-night cruises from Singapore that do not include port calls. Disney acquired the vessel in late 2022 after it was ordered for Genting Hong Kong's Dream Cruises brand, which went bankrupt during construction, and made design and feature changes with Meyer Werft.

Disney Adventure remains scheduled for its Singapore program, but the company has not disclosed further repair details or identified the specific system involved.
