Royal Caribbean International has moved up the debut of Legend of the Seas by a week, setting the third Icon-class ship’s inaugural sailing for July 4, 2026, instead of July 11.

The cruise line added what it described in a message to guests as “one (1) extra sailing,” calling the new date the launch that will “kick off the celebrations” for the ship’s inaugural season. Legend of the Seas is under construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland.

New inaugural sailing: a seven-night Western Mediterranean itinerary

The newly added voyage is a seven-night Western Mediterranean cruise sailing roundtrip from Civitavecchia (Rome). Royal Caribbean said the sailing returns to Civitavecchia on July 11, 2026, the same day as the previously scheduled first departure.

The itinerary includes two sea days and scheduled calls at:

  • Marseille, France
  • Barcelona, Spain
  • Palma de Mallorca, Spain
  • La Spezia, Italy (gateway for Florence/Pisa)

What the change means for guests booked on July 11

Royal Caribbean said the July 11, 2026 cruise is still expected to operate. “Not to worry, our July 11 sailing that is part of our showcase will still take place,” the company told guests, while also offering what it called an “exclusive opportunity” to move to the July 4 inaugural departure.

How transfers and stateroom assignments will work

Guests booked on July 11 can request to switch to July 4, subject to availability and on a first-come, first-served basis. Royal Caribbean said guests who move are expected to be placed in the same stateroom when possible; if not, the line said it will offer a “like-for-like” accommodation.

Fare protection, refunds, and other price changes

For guests who switch, Royal Caribbean said it will protect the cruise fare originally paid for the July 11 sailing. The company also said that if the fare for the July 4 sailing is lower, the lower price will apply and any difference will be refunded to the original form of payment.

Other charges may change with the new departure date. Royal Caribbean told guests that taxes, fees, gratuities, and other non-fare items will be charged at prevailing rates for the updated booking, and that items such as drink packages, pre-paid gratuities, and shore excursions would follow pricing applicable to the new sailing date.

Air2Sea support and reimbursement for independent travel changes

Royal Caribbean said guests who booked flights through its Air2Sea program and decide to switch sailings will receive help adjusting flights to match the new date.

For guests who arranged air and/or hotels independently, the company said it will reimburse eligible change costs with receipts, up to:

  • $200 (USD) per person for domestic travel
  • $400 (USD) per person for international travel

Construction progress in Finland and a debut date that has shifted

Royal Caribbean linked the earlier start to progress toward completion, sea trials, and handover of the ship. In its note to guests, the cruise line said: “Building such a large and incredible ship is no easy feat, but… there are times when we get to embark on our new ship ahead of schedule.”

The July 4, 2026 inaugural sailing is the latest shift in the ship’s entry-into-service timeline. Legend of the Seas had previously been marketed with an inaugural season starting later, including an originally planned debut on August 2, 2026, before the first Rome-area departures were moved earlier to July 11, 2026. With the addition of the July 4 sailing, the first voyage is now scheduled roughly a month earlier than that initial August date.

Onboard attractions and early publicized features

Royal Caribbean is positioning Legend of the Seas as its third Icon-class ship and, upon debut, as the largest ship in the world. Published descriptions for the vessel call for eight neighborhoods, 28 dining options, and seven pools, along with the Thrill Waterpark concept at sea.

Entertainment and dining plans that Royal Caribbean has publicized for the ship include the immersive dining concept Royal Railway Legend Station and an entertainment lineup featuring Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Plans after the first Mediterranean season

After sailing in the Mediterranean during summer 2026, Legend of the Seas is scheduled to reposition to Florida and homeport at Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale) beginning in November 2026. Royal Caribbean has said the ship will offer six- and eight-night itineraries in the Caribbean and Bahamas, including visits to Perfect Day at CocoCay.

The cruise line has also indicated the ship will return to Europe for a summer 2027 season. Ahead of the July 4, 2026 debut, Royal Caribbean has pointed to remaining milestones including completion of construction in Turku, sea trials, and delivery of the ship to the cruise line.
