Oceania Cruises will open bookings on Jan. 28, 2026, for the inaugural season of Oceania Sonata, the first ship in its new Sonata Class. The vessel is scheduled to enter service in August 2027, with Oceania previewing a launch lineup that spans 22 voyages and more than 90 destinations.

Oceania Sonata is slated to debut as the first of four Sonata Class ships planned to arrive through 2035. Its inaugural season is scheduled to run from August 2027 through April 2028, with sailings ranging from seven to 16 days.

Key dates: itinerary previews and sales launch

Travelers will be able to view Oceania Sonata’s inaugural itineraries online beginning Jan. 21, 2026, ahead of the Jan. 28, 2026, opening of bookings.

Where Oceania Sonata will sail in its first season

Oceania Sonata’s maiden voyage is scheduled for Aug. 7, 2027, departing from Rome (Civitavecchia) on a 14-day Mediterranean itinerary ending in Trieste, Italy. Ports of call highlighted for the first sailing include Catania, Italy; Valletta, Malta; Katakolon, Greece; Bar, Montenegro; and Zadar, Croatia, alongside additional stops described by the line such as Sicily and off-the-beaten-path ports including Paros, Greece, and Koper, Slovenia.

Across the broader Europe program, the ship will call at major gateway cities such as Barcelona, Lisbon, and Athens, as well as smaller ports including Sarandë, Albania, and Palamós, Spain. The season also includes longer stays and overnight visits in cities such as Istanbul, Bordeaux, and Livorno, aligning with Oceania’s emphasis on more unhurried time ashore.

Jason Montague, chief luxury officer of Oceania Cruises, said the inaugural season is “defined by the cultural diversity and geographic variety of the destinations she visits,” adding that the debut “sets the tone” for the new class with “meaningful, unrushed freedom to explore the world.”

Transatlantic to Miami and tropical routes

After the Mediterranean portion of the season, Oceania Sonata will cross the Atlantic to Miami and begin Caribbean and Latin America-focused sailings. Those itineraries include calls such as Bridgetown, Barbados, and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, as well as less-common ports including Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa, Mexico, and Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala; one itinerary features a daylight transit of the Panama Canal.

A suite-forward design, including new two-bedroom Owner’s Suites

Oceania Sonata is expected to carry 1,390 guests, supported by a crew of 855. Oceania has positioned the ship as its most luxurious to date, with suites making up about one-third of accommodations (33%), the highest proportion in the company’s fleet.

“We have listened closely to the desires of our guests and are delighted to unveil the Oceania Sonata’s thoughtfully reimagined suite accommodations,” Montague said, calling the ship “a triumph of spacious design and meticulous craftsmanship.”

At the top end, the ship will introduce Oceania’s first two-bedroom Owner’s Suites. Oceania said there will be four Owner’s Suites, each measuring more than 2,500 square feet, located on the aft corners of Decks 10 and 11, with wraparound verandas, two full bathrooms, and 180-degree ocean views.

  • Vista Suites: Eight suites ranging from 1,500 to 1,900 square feet, located at the aft of the ship with living and dining areas. Bathrooms include double vanities, a rainforest shower, and a porcelain soaking tub.
  • Oceania Suites: Sixteen suites ranging from 1,000 to more than 1,400 square feet, featuring king-size beds, private teak verandas, and marble-clad bathrooms.
  • Horizon Suites: Fifty suites offering more than 600 square feet, with separate living and sleeping areas, a walk-through wardrobe room, and an oversized veranda with lounging furniture.
  • Penthouse Suites and Penthouse Deluxe Suites: The ship will include 63 Penthouse Suites measuring 426 square feet and 82 Penthouse Deluxe Suites measuring 488 square feet, both with private verandas and panoramic views through floor-to-ceiling glass doors.

Oceania said all suites will include dedicated butler service, and that Owner’s, Vista, Oceania, and Horizon Suites will feature in-suite illy coffee machines.

Dining and onboard venues: 13 concepts, including two new restaurants

Oceania Sonata will offer 13 bars and restaurants, anchored by two new dining concepts: Nikkei Kitchen, which combines Japanese techniques with Peruvian flavors, and La Table par Maîtres Cuisiniers de France, a French fine-dining venue developed with the Master Chefs of France. Oceania said the restaurant will be the only one at sea launched with the organization’s seal of approval.

Nathan Hickman, chief commercial officer of Oceania Cruises, said Oceania guests are looking for “memorable experiences worth sharing at the dinner table,” adding that Oceania Sonata will extend that approach through itineraries, onboard offerings, and shore excursions designed to bring guests closer to destinations.

Additional onboard venues named for the ship include the Opus Lounge near the library, a larger Baristas café, an enhanced Crêperie, and the LYNC Digital Center.

With Oceania Sonata set to enter service in August 2027, the next milestones for travelers are the Jan. 21, 2026, itinerary preview and the Jan. 28, 2026, opening of bookings, ahead of an inaugural season that begins in the Mediterranean before shifting to Miami for Caribbean and Latin America sailings.
