Marine Hotel Association Conference Draws Cruise Procurement Leaders
As cruise lines upgrade onboard dining and hotel programs, suppliers are vying for procurement access, making the Marine Hotel Association a bellwether for the shipboard supply chain.
The Marine Hotel Association (MHA) drew cruise line purchasing decision-makers and a sold-out roster of suppliers to its 41st annual conference and trade show at the Naples Grande Beach Resort in Naples, Florida, from March 29 to 31.
Cruise procurement leaders and suppliers convene in Naples
The not-for-profit association’s annual gathering serves cruise hotel operations and the shipboard supply chain, bringing together vendors spanning food and beverage programs, stateroom and hotel consumables, and related services with the teams that evaluate and purchase those products.
Delegates included purchasing and procurement executives tied to major cruise brands and operators, including Carnival, Royal Caribbean Group, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, MSC, Virgin Voyages, Disney Cruise Line, Windstar Cruises, and The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, along with additional marine and hospitality organizations participating in the supply chain.
Opening remarks focus on direct access to decision-makers
MHA Board President Vina Jumpp, associate vice president of global hotel, food and beverage procurement at Royal Caribbean Group, opened the conference and framed the event as a connector between suppliers and cruise line leaders. “This association differentiates itself from just about any show I've been to in the industry,” Jumpp said.
She also emphasized the value of on-site conversations during the three-day program. “You have the opportunity to connect one-on-one with the cruise line leaders, the chefs and the decision makers,” she said.
Addressing first-time exhibitors and newer suppliers, Jumpp noted that gaining traction with cruise lines can take time and encouraged persistence. “Please be patient,” she said, adding that progress may not be immediate for new participants. She also recognized new supplier companies attending the trade show for the first time.
Sold-out exhibit space and a schedule built around networking
All vendor space for the trade show floor was sold out, with exhibitors set up in the resort’s Royal Palm and Orchid Ballrooms. MHA’s format is designed to support scheduled meetings and informal discussions, including during meals and evening events where cruise line representatives and vendors share the same venue.
Organizers structured registration as a single package that covered conference programming along with scheduled breakfasts, dinners, and receptions.
- Sunday, March 29: The conference opened with an evening reception at the resort’s Mangrove Pool, sponsored by Heineken.
- Monday, March 30: Breakfast and opening remarks were followed by the trade show floor opening at 10 a.m., and the evening program included the Notti de Napoli dinner in the Vista Ballroom and on the Sunset Deck.
- Tuesday, March 31: Breakfast and educational programming preceded a final half-day of trade show hours, with the event concluding with a Grand Finale beach dinner.
New concurrent breakout sessions replace the traditional single-track format
A notable programming change came on Tuesday morning, when MHA introduced concurrent breakout sessions in place of its traditional single-track panels. The sessions ran from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and were organized by segment of the cruise hotel supply chain, giving attendees the option to choose programming aligned with their work.
The three panels were titled Someone Feed the Ships (focused on food purchasing, provisioning, and fleet logistics), Invited Aboard (centered on what cruise operators want from hotel supply partners), and Liquid Assets (examining beverage strategy, how purchasing decisions are made, and where panelists see opportunities for innovation as beverage programs evolve toward 2026 and beyond).
Each breakout was set to include cruise line representatives from hotel operations and supply chain and was moderated by MHA board members. A networking opportunity with panelists followed, allowing delegates to continue discussions immediately after the sessions.
MHA scholarship program sets 2026 dates at CIA Singapore
During the conference, MHA also announced dates for its 2026 culinary scholarship program, scheduled for June 15 to 19 at the Culinary Institute of America’s Singapore campus. John McGirl, chair of the MHA Scholarship Foundation, said the initiative is designed to develop leadership and management skills for cruise line chefs working in high-pressure culinary environments. “We’re excited to bring this opportunity to our members,” McGirl said, adding that the Singapore location increases access for Asian-based culinary professionals.
MHA said the scholarship alternates annually between the CIA campuses in Singapore and Hyde Park, New York. Member cruise lines can nominate culinary talent already in supervisory or managerial roles who are aiming to progress toward chef de cuisine or executive chef positions.
After the March 29–31 gathering in Naples, MHA’s participants are expected to move into follow-up meetings and supplier qualification conversations that extend beyond the event, while the association’s next major milestone on the calendar is the June 15–19, 2026 scholarship program in Singapore.
