Holland America Opens Bookings for 2027-28 Pacific Cruises
By opening far-ahead Pacific sailings, Holland America is betting that demand will keep shifting toward longer, port-intensive voyages that start closer to home on the West Coast.
Holland America Line has opened bookings for nearly three dozen cruises in its 2027-28 season across the Pacific and nearby regions, with sailings that range from short Pacific Coast trips to longer voyages in Hawaii, Mexico and the Panama Canal. The season runs from October through April and departs from five North American homeports across the U.S. and Canada, the cruise line said.
Season snapshot: about 35 voyages across four ships
The 2027-28 deployment covers roughly 35 itineraries operated by Koningsdam, Eurodam, Nieuw Amsterdam and Zaandam. Routes span Circle Hawaii cruises with extended time in port, Mexico itineraries that reach the Sea of Cortez and Baja, Panama Canal transits between Florida and the West Coast, and Pacific Coast voyages linking California with the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia.
Paul Grigsby, Holland America Line’s vice president of itinerary planning and deployment, described the season as broad in scope, saying, “Whether guests are chasing the sun in Hawaii or seeking the rugged, untouched beauty of the Great Bear Rainforest, this season truly has something for every type of cruiser.”
Hawaii: 17- and 18-day Circle Hawaii cruises with overnight Honolulu calls
For Hawaii, Holland America Line is planning 17- and 18-day Circle Hawaii sailings, including an overnight in Honolulu that can last up to about 40 hours. The itinerary plan includes calls at Nawiliwili (Kauai), Honolulu (Oahu), Kahului (Maui), and both Kona and Hilo on the Big Island.
The cruise line is also promoting shore-focused programming through its Hawaii Up Close experiences. In addition to time for attractions such as Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, black sand beaches and the Land of Frozen Fire, the lineup includes activities such as stargazing, luaus and cultural workshops.
Mexico from San Diego: Mexican Riviera, Baja, and Sea of Cortez options
Mexico sailings in the season range from seven to 12 days, with multiple roundtrip options from San Diego. Koningsdam and Zaandam are slated for routes along Mexico’s Pacific coast and deeper itineraries that include the Sea of Cortez and Baja, combining marquee ports with less-crowded calls such as Loreto and Guaymas.
- Koningsdam: An 11-day Mexican Riviera and Sea of Cortez sailing roundtrip from San Diego, calling at Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, La Paz, Loreto and Manzanillo.
- Zaandam: A 12-day Historical Baja Peninsula voyage roundtrip from San Diego departing Dec. 6, 2027, with calls including Loreto, Guaymas, Topolobampo, La Paz, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas and Ensenada.
- Koningsdam and Zaandam: 7-day Mexican Riviera cruises from San Diego with stops at Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta.
Across the Mexico itineraries, Holland America highlights opportunities such as whale watching, kayaking and visits to local markets.
Panama Canal: 14- to 22-day transits with lock passages and nature-and-heritage calls
Holland America Line’s season includes Panama Canal itineraries ranging from 14 to 22 days, transiting between the West Coast and Florida. The voyages feature passages through the Gatun, Pedro Miguel and Miraflores Locks and combine the canal transit with port calls marketed around rainforest settings, historical landmarks, Mayan archaeological sites, volcano landscapes, sloth sanctuaries, and UNESCO-recognized locations.
One example the cruise line published is a 14-day Zaandam sailing departing Jan. 16, 2028, from Fort Lauderdale to San Diego. The itinerary includes Cartagena (Colombia), Acajutla (El Salvador) and Puerto Quetzal (Guatemala), along with Mexican calls including Santa Cruz Huatulco, Acapulco and Cabo San Lucas.
Pacific Coast: short coastal sailings and a Great Bear Rainforest return
On the Pacific Coast, Holland America is planning one- to seven-day cruises, including sailings that connect San Diego and Vancouver. Eurodam, Koningsdam and Zaandam are among the ships assigned to these routes, with itineraries that can include stops such as San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Astoria and Victoria.
Eurodam, in particular, is scheduled for multiple four- to six-night sailings from San Diego that can call at Santa Barbara and San Francisco, with some itineraries also including Astoria (Oregon) or Victoria (British Columbia). The program also brings back the Great Bear Rainforest itinerary as a seven-day cruise roundtrip from Vancouver in 2028.
Astoria details: an April 2028 call on a 22-day Panama Canal voyage
Astoria, Oregon, appears on at least one of the longer Panama Canal itineraries. A 22-day Panama Canal voyage is scheduled to sail from Fort Lauderdale to Vancouver from April 1 through April 23, 2028, with an Astoria call slated for April 21 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A Portland, Oregon TV report from KOIN listed the 22-day sailing at about $3,409 per person at the time of publication, and said the fare covers standard cruise inclusions such as onboard entertainment and 24-hour room service.
Onboard programs: Have It All, Destination Dining, and Global Fresh Fish
Alongside itinerary planning, Holland America is continuing its region-linked onboard and shore programming, including Destination Dining and the Global Fresh Fish Program. For travelers looking to bundle common add-ons, the cruise line is also marketing its Have It All premium package, which it describes as including specialty dining, WiFi and crew gratuities.
With the 2027-28 schedule now open, Holland America’s Pacific season is set to blend longer, destination-heavy trips with shorter Pacific Coast runs, including the return of Great Bear Rainforest voyages from Vancouver and an Astoria call in April 2028.
