Ambassador Cruise Line will begin sailing from Portsmouth for the first time in April 2026, adding a new south-coast departure option for its adult-only, no-fly cruise programme. The debut Portsmouth season is set to run through April 2027 and will be operated by Ambition, the line’s newer ship, which entered service in 2023.

Portsmouth added to Ambassador’s regional departure programme

Ambassador’s primary homeport is London Tilbury, and the line also sails from other UK regional ports including Bristol and Liverpool. The company is positioning Portsmouth as an additional embarkation option for travellers who want to cruise without flying, particularly for passengers based across the south of England.

Christian Verhounig, CEO of Ambassador Cruise Line, said: “Launching our first season of sailings from Portsmouth is a significant moment for Ambassador and an important step in expanding our regional departure programme.”

Verhounig added: “Our guests value the simplicity and convenience of no-fly cruising, and the launch of Portsmouth as a new departure port provides the ideal gateway for guests living across the south of England.”

Eight itineraries scheduled, with sailings on sale through April 2027

Ambassador said it will offer eight itineraries from Portsmouth, with voyages covering European destinations up to April 2027. Early sailings highlighted by the cruise line include shorter Northern Europe options and longer voyages to Iberia.

Examples of announced sailings and fares

  • Escape to Belgium, France & Holland: a six-night sailing departing April 6, 2026, with fares starting from £1,199 per person for suite accommodation.
  • Springtime Sunshine in Portugal and Spain: a 10-night sailing departing April 12, 2026, priced from £829 per person in an inside cabin.

Verhounig said the season offers “a choice of itineraries visiting some of Europe’s most popular destinations,” and added that the line looks forward to welcoming guests “from Portsmouth and further afield.”

Ambition to operate the Portsmouth programme

The Portsmouth season will be run by Ambition, described by the line as the newest ship in its fleet and a 1,200-passenger vessel. Ambassador also operates Ambience, a 1,400-passenger ship, across its wider programme.

Portsmouth International Port said it is already established as a cruise turnaround port, and framed Ambassador’s arrival as a fit with the operator’s regional-cruising focus.

“With Ambassador specialising in UK regional cruising, Portsmouth is perfectly placed to welcome passengers from across the south coast, with direct motorway access and connections to London and beyond,” said Andrew Williamson, head of cruise and ferry at Portsmouth International Port.

Ambassador will join a roster of cruise operators already using Portsmouth, including Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Viking, Fred Olsen, Swan Hellenic, and Windstar.

Trade partner ship visits scheduled for 2026

Alongside the Portsmouth launch, Ambassador announced its 2026 trade partner ship visit programme, offering tours of Ambience and Ambition at regional ports around the UK. A Portsmouth visit is scheduled for April 22, 2026.

Nicola Harper, head of distribution at Ambassador Cruise Line, said: “Our trade partners are key to our success, and we’re incredibly excited to launch this initiative for the fifth consecutive year.”

Ambassador said the visits include ship tours, brand briefings, and four-course lunches designed to reflect the onboard dining experience.

Ambassador has also launched a “Treat Yourself” campaign offering up to 20% off balcony and suite fares on select 2026-2027 itineraries.
